volunteer work in Peru advice wanted (trisha Murphy, e-mail address supplied, 24 Aug 2003 01:07 EST)
I spent 7 months in South America last year, While traveling I met several people from all over the world who were volunteering, working with street children in orphanages and schools in Peru. I recently returned to Peru for 4 weeks so that I could confirm my ideas of becoming a volunteer. I am now in the Process of choosing the right organization for me. I would prefer to work directly with an orphanage and not through an organization. Does anybody know the best way to contact these orphanages or schools? I would like to Volunteer for 7/8 months I would be grateful of any advice anybody can give me about volunteering in Peru. I am planning my trip for January. me.

Volunteer work in south America (Louise, e-mail address supplied, 8 Jan 2004 16:21 EST)
  Hi,

I'm seriously looking into volunteer work in South America, preferably Equador but I am interested in any South American country such as Peru. I am looking particulary at the areas of Teaching/Conservation.

I have looked into Volunteer travel companies also but these seem to be asking for too much money and I would prefer to it it directly. I would be grateful if anybody can pass on any information and vice versa. Please feel free to contact me and I would love to hear from anybody looking to do the same.

Lou.

Hey there, I was debating the same thing, wanting to volunteer but found it was so expensive, here is organization that I found to be fairly cost efficient, at least from the environmental work they do and I know they have social programs as well, check out this site and good luck to you http://coterc.org/

 Peru Orphanage (Zan G, 24 Jan 2004 20:57 EST)
Mosoq Ayllu means New Community in Quechua, a native language of Peru. It is an orphanage accepting volunteers. Their costs are very low, 250 dollars a month gets you a homestay and three meals a day. They have a website http://www.geocities.com/mosoq_ayllu/ you can email at, mosoqayllu@yahoo.com I am planning to go there in the summer. Look at their website before you e-mail. Best, Zan

Hi! I'm interested in volunteering in South America for 6-10 months starting Sept. 2004... I want to go into either teaching, caring for orphans, or conservation. Any ideas are welcome, although the cheaper the better. I think it's great that you all are looking to volunteer as well; everyone else I tell about my idea thinks I'm nuts. Thanks! :)

I am pretty excited to go anywhere. . . If anybody has some suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated!! thanks!!!
